what the Magi knew

always by another way
your grace never leaves me unchanged
with every look in your face
my eyes are opened wider
and my heart redirected
to know your will for my life,
to journey farther and find again
the love that moves my soul

Burning like a flame,
oh star,
you lit up the earth,
pointing the way.
But you were just burning for God,
reflecting the radiance you saw
in a baby boy.

I too search for the spaces in the night
where I burn the brightest,
and I look to find the small and hidden glory.
The same hand guides my heart.

Oh star,
thick clouds and darkness —
but God has placed us here,
you and I, to shine.
So throb with beauty
and exalt with radiance
at the dawn
and the happiness and treasure of your heart.

For look, they come to see your light
and know it too.
